Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to provide a 50 per cent discount for students travelling in the Delhi Metro. In his letter, Kejriwal mentioned that both the central government and the Delhi government share the financial burden of the metro services, and thus, they should jointly bear the cost of the discount for students. The AAP chief's letter to the Prime Minister comes days ahead of the upcoming Assembly election in Delhi.

Furthermore, Kejriwal also mentioned that the Delhi government is planning to introduce a free bus travel scheme for students to ease their commuting challenges. The AAP government already provides free bus travel to women in the city.

Kejriwal demands OBS quota for Jat community

Earlier this month, Kejriwal accused the BJP-led Central government of reneging on its promise to provide reservations to the Jat community in the national capital. He also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding the inclusion of Delhi's Jat community in the Central OBC list. The AAP chief also accused the Centre of misleading the community for the past decade, and failing to deliver on its promises. Kejriwal also alleged that despite Delhi's Jats being recognised under the OBC category in the national capital, the Central government has refused to extend the benefits to them.

Kejriwal files nomination

On January 15, Arvind Kejriwal filed his nomination from New Delhi constituency for the upcoming assembly elections and urged people to vote based on work and not "abuses". After filing his nomination, he exuded confidence that the AAP would return to power in Delhi. "I want to request the people of Delhi to vote based on work and not abuses," he said. Notably, Kejriwal has held the New Delhi seat since 2013.

The upcoming Delhi Assembly elections are set to witness a triangular contest among the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress. The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP will aim for its third consecutive term, riding on its previous electoral successes. Meanwhile, the BJP and Congress are preparing to challenge AAP's dominance in the capital.
