BBC Strictly Come Dancing turns awkward as Shirley Ballas interrupts Craig live on air

The latest instalment became rather strained

Strictly Come Dancing experienced an awkward moment on Saturday night when Shirley Ballas cut in while Craig Revel Horwood was giving his critique. During the latest episode, Wynne Evans and professional dancer Katya Jones performed a cha cha to Papa's Got A Brand New Bag from Mrs Doubtfire, with Wynne transforming into the iconic character played by Robin Williams.

Craig's feedback was blunt, saying: "I have to say the hip action really let this whole number down, it was really wooden and stiff! " However, Shirley quickly interjected with: "No, not at all, not at all! "

Craig reiterated his point, saying: "It was wooden and stiff! " but Shirley interrupted again, saying: "I didn't think it was wooden" to which Craig insisted: "Well, it was..." Despite the disagreement, Craig awarded the pair a respectable seven out of 10 marks, while Shirley gave them eight, resulting in a total score of 30 for Wynne and Katya. The show had opened with the professional dancers dressed as Minions from the Despicable Me franchise, with Kai Widdrington as Gru and the other professionals in yellow bodysuits.

As Strictly Come Dancing celebrated movie week, viewers were left split over the opening performance dedicated to Minions. Opinions took to"X," expressing mixed reactions.

One viewer stated: "Not at all keen on the minions opening number. There didn't seem to be much actual dancing going on #Strictly", while another remarked: "What a bonkers opening number! #Strictly". Additionally, a tweet read: "It's movie week on #Strictly and that pro number to Minions was not the one" and someone else commented: "That opening routine was.... #Strictly."

Conversely, some fans adored the dance. Tweets included: "Loved the opening dance tonight #Strictly #scd", "Loved that opening dance #Strictly", reports the Mirror.

As the night progressed, celebrity and professional dancers dazzled the audience with movie-themed performances and costumes. Unfortunately, DIY SOS star Nick Knowles and his partner Luba Mushtuk could not perform their Charleston to 'Rain On The Roof' from Paddington 2 due to an injury Nick sustained on Friday.

Adhering to Strictly regulations, the duo will automatically advance to the next show, provided Nick makes a recovery.

This development follows last weekend's exit of Olympian Tom Dean and dancer Nadiya Bychkova, who were the first to be voted off this season.
