Amy Dowden breaks silence on her Strictly Come Dancing future

by · DevonLive

Dancer Amy Dowden faced significant challenges but made a triumphant return to Strictly Come Dancing last year, although her future on the show remains uncertain. The professional dancer had to temporarily leave the BBC dance contest due to her breast cancer diagnosis in 2023

Her remarkable comeback occurred last September when she was paired with JLS's JB Gill. Amy was overjoyed to be back dancing, and fans shared in her excitement. Tragically, her time on the series was cut short by a foot injury, forcing Amy to withdraw from the competition.

Professional dancer Lauren Oakley stepped in to partner with JB, ultimately reaching the final. A few months later, Amy was able to re-join Strictly for the UK tour.

Like her fellow professionals, Amy is currently waiting for confirmation from the show's producers regarding her participation in the 2025 season. In the meantime, she has the support of her Strictly colleague Carlos Gu, and they are set to embark on their Reborn tour together soon, reports the Mirror.

Speaking to the Mirror about a potential return to Strictly, Amy said: "We are waiting to find out, fingers crossed. We would love to but we are waiting for the decision to be made which is normally the Spring time."

Amy opened up about her return to the dance floor, which didn't quite meet her expectations, as she acknowledged the undue pressure she placed on herself. The dancer, who was recently honoured with an MBE for her contributions to raising awareness of Crohn's disease, shared: "Last year, it was a lot of emotions, excitement but I think also pressure I had put on myself."

She reflected on her experience, saying, "I think this year, I would be able to truly go in and enjoy it and I think that's what I would be looking forward to the most [if she took part in the 2025 series]. I really do truly feel like Amy again.

"Last year, I wasn't confident in myself really deep down. I think I was still trying to accept everything. I didn't look the same, with my hair growing back. You could see a difference in me."

Amy also recounted a heartfelt conversation with fellow professional dancer Dianne Buswell during the Strictly Come Dancing tour earlier this year, where Dianne noticed a positive change in her. "Dianne said at the tour rehearsals 'we have got Amy back'," she recalled.

"She could see I wasn't like that during the series. If I am back [on Strictly] this year, I would just embrace and enjoy every second."

She's set to return to the dance floor in just a few weeks, alongside her best friend and 'brother' Carlos for their upcoming tour. Carlos shared the essence of their show, saying: "Reborn is based out both of our stories. The story that we have is quite inspiring. For myself, it is finding my identity, challenging myself, living in a different country, navigating my life."

Amy chimed in with her personal reflection: "For me, obviously, with everything that I've been through, I truly feel now like a new vision of myself and I can't wait to be back on that magical dance floor up close and personal."
