"They Are Planning A Run": JD Vance Might Seem Like MAGA's Heir, But This Ex-GOP Strategist Says This 1 Person May Challenge Him
by Lee Moran · BuzzFeedPosted 2 hours ago
Longtime conservative strategist Rick Wilson has dismissed Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s past claim that he won’t run against Vice President JD Vance for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination if Vance enters the race.
“He’s full of shit. I’ve known Marco a very long time. He’s completely full of shit,” Wilson said on the latest episode of the Against All Enemies podcast. In fact, Wilson claimed that Rubio’s team is actively “planning his run.”
“I know the guys that work for Marco at that level,” he claimed. “They are all talking to the money people. They are all talking to the press. They are all talking to political power brokers in the various early states. They are planning a run.”
“Do not be fooled for a single minute” that Rubio won’t run, he continued. Rubio, he predicted, will “come out and go, ‘While I did not want to run against my friend, JD Vance, I believe it is time for new leadership that breaks away…’”
“I mean, I can see the speech in my head because I’ve written it a thousand times,” he added.
Earlier in the episode, however, Wilson suggested that Trump will try to drag out the process of choosing his successor as long as possible, first by unconstitutionally teasing that he will run again to “delay all the other Republicans from getting in the race.”
Trump will also “weigh in anytime any one of them is in any way off agenda at all” and will “constantly churn the water,” he added.
“The one thing I think that would make him get behind one person is if he thought, ‘OK, they’re all weak enough. I’ll put Don Jr. in there so I can keep up the grift, so I can still run things from Mar-a-Lago.’”
