Brittany Allen earned an Emmy for her role as Roxie Hamler, a terminally ill cancer patient in Season 2. After HBO chose not to submit her performance, she took matters into her own hands and submitted herself for Emmy consideration.

In addition, Jeff Kober, who played Duke Ekins, Dr. Robbie's motorcycle mechanic in desperate need of treatment for his heart, did the same and he also scored an Emmy nod by self-submitting.
