LONDON — U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer is braced for a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping — and there'll be more than a few elephants in the room.

Though Britain has improved its relationship with China following the more combative approach of previous Conservative administrations, a litany of concerns over national security and human rights continues to dog Labour’s attempted refresh.

Starmer, who will meet the Chinese president in Beijing Thursday morning, told reporters engaging with China means he can discuss "issues where we disagree."
