ANKARA, Turkey — NATO allies pledged their commitment to collective defense in a declaration ending their summit Wednesday, despite repeated warnings by U.S. President Donald Trump not to come to Europe's help in the event of an attack and renewing his threat to take over Greenland.

"We, the heads of state and government of the North Atlantic alliance, have gathered in Ankara to reaffirm our ironclad commitment to our collective defence under Article 5 of the Washington Treaty and to the transatlantic bond. An attack on one is an attack on all," the declaration reads.

However, the U.S. president remained a disruptive force in NATO, despite other allies touting increased defense spending and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte going out of his way to placate Trump. Following another turbulent summit, it's not clear if leaders will meet again next year.
