Sonakshi Sinha Reveals If She Discussed Religion With Zaheer Iqbal Before Marriage, 'They Follow...'

Sonakshi Sinha recently opened up about her interfaith marriage with her husband, Zaheer Iqbal. Here's what she said.

Sonakshi Sinha is among the most loved actresses in Bollywood, and she is admired for her versatile acting, fun personality, and impressive screen presence. She rose to fame for her exceptional work in films like Dabangg, Rowdy Rathore, Son of Sardaar, Holiday, and more. On the personal front, the actress left her fans surprised when she tied the knot with her beau, Zaheer Iqbal, in June 2024. However, the different religions between the couple soon became a massive discussion among fans. In a recent interview, Sonakshi revealed whether she and Zaheer had ever discussed religion during their relationship. 

Sonakshi Sinha opens up about her interfaith marriage with Zaheer Iqbal 

When Sonakshi Sinha surprised the world after announcing her marriage to Zaheer Iqbal, social media was flooded with criticism about their religious differences. She recently sat down for an interview with Hauterrfly and revealed that she and Zaheer never talked anything about religion during seven years of their relationship. Rather, they loved each other, and nothing else mattered. In her words: 

"We were not looking at religion. Here are two people in love with each other who want to get married and are getting married. He is not enforcing his religion on me. I am not enforcing my religion on him. We never discussed anything about religion. We don't sit and talk."

Sonakshi also indirectly clarified the criticism around interfaith marriage and shared they never interfere in each other's religious beliefs. She explained that she has been following certain traditions at her home since childhood and continues to do so. On the other hand, Zaheer does the same, and they respect each other's culture. At the same time, when it came to their marriage, rather than having a tussle over their religion, they tied the knot under a special marriage act, and no one ever discussed conversion. Sonakshi explained: 

"They follow certain traditions at their home. I follow certain traditions at my house... I respect them and their culture. They respect me and my entire family. That's how it should be. The best way to get married was a Special Marriage Act where I, as a Hindu woman, do not need to change my religion, and he, as a Muslim man, can remain a Muslim man. And two people in love share a beautiful bond of marriage."

Sonakshi Sinha reveals she was scared to tell her father, Shatrughan Sinha, about Zaheer Iqbal 

Sonakshi Sinha dated Zaheer Iqbal for seven years away from the public eye before the couple announced their relationship to the world. In the same conversation, the actress revealed that first telling her mom, Poonam Sinha about her relationship with Zaheer was easier. However, her mother asked the Sonakshi to reveal it to her father, Shatrughan Sinha by herself. She admitted she was nervous about talking to her father on this matter. Recalling his reaction, Sonakshi said: 

'He said, 'You're a grown woman, he's a grown man, you're both happy with each other, that's all that matters. You've made your decision, and I am with you; please go ahead. I would love to meet the boy.'"

Sonakshi Sinha met Zaheer Iqbal met through Salman Khan, and soon, the duo fell in love with each other. The duo dated for several years before they tied the knot in a civil ceremony on June 23, 2025, at Sonakshi Sinha's apartment in Mumbai. For those unaware, it was the same date when they began dating. After their wedding, the couple hosted a grand reception in Mumbai attended by Salman Khan, Kajol, Rekha, Vidya Balan, Aditi Rao Hydari, Honey Singh, and Siddharth Roy Kapur.
