Gunmen Kidnap Deputy Superintendent Of Corrections, 15 Others In Enugu

Unknown assailants have reportedly kidnapped Innocent Ogbu, a Deputy Superintendent of Corrections, along with 15 other individuals.

Reports obtained by Naija News revealed that Ogbu, who serves as the unit commander of the Armed Squad at the Medium-Security Custodial Centre located in Minna, Niger State, was abducted on the Lokoja-Enugu road on Saturday, November 23, 2024, while en route to Enugu for a professional development course.

According to AIT, the public relations officer for the command, Rabiu Mohammed Shuaibu, confirmed the occurrence, stating that the unit commander was abducted alongside 15 other passengers travelling in an 18-seater commercial vehicle.

The incident has been duly reported to both the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), Shuaibu further noted.

The controller of corrections, Nigerian correctional service, Niger State Command, has called for prayers for the safe release of the officer.

Meanwhile, police operatives successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and rescued 14 individuals on Sunday evening.

It was reported that the incident took place in Dan’arau village, situated along the Magama-Jibia Road within the Jibia local government area of Katsina State.

As reported by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the assailants were believed to be armed bandits. They opened fire on two commercial vehicles, causing panic as they attempted to abduct the passengers.

In response to the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia LGA led a team of operatives to the scene. The police engaged the bandits in a fierce exchange of gunfire, successfully preventing the kidnapping and rescuing 14 individuals.

Regrettably, two of the rescued victims suffered gunshot wounds and were promptly transported to a hospital for medical care.

Unfortunately, one of the victims did not survive despite receiving treatment.

Authorities are actively pursuing the fleeing bandits, and investigations are ongoing to gather further information regarding the incident.
