Cameroon international Etta Eyong has thrown the first punch ahead of Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final playoff in Morocco, boldly claiming he no longer fears Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Etta Eyong, who plays for Levante in Spain, said the days when Nigerian footballers used to intimidate him are long gone, insisting that Cameroon now has the strength and confidence to take them down.

“For me, the most dangerous was Nigeria before, but I am no longer afraid,” Eyong told Sporty TV. “Even though we have to play three matches against them to qualify, we are going to win the three games. It is not like then when Nigeria was frightening me during those days, but I think we’ve the capacity and ability to win those games that are coming.”

The World Cup semi-final playoffs have drawn up mouthwatering fixtures, with Nigeria facing Gabon, while Cameroon battles DR Congo.

The winners from both ties will clash in the playoff final on Sunday for a coveted ticket to the 2026 World Cup.

The Super Eagles who missed out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, are desperate to return to the global stage.

The three-time African champions are hoping to secure qualification for the 2026 tournament, which will be hosted across Mexico, Canada and the United States.

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi believes the team is fully focused and determined to get the job done.

“Hopefully we win and get the result we want because the World Cup is the biggest competition and it would be a shame if Nigeria don’t go and it’s only right that we give our best and try and show Nigerians we are there,” Iwobi told Sporty TV.
