Fresh crisis rocked the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday as two rival factions clashed over control of the secretariat ahead of separate meetings scheduled by both groups.

The faction loyal to former governor of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the newly elected National Working Committee produced in Ibadan had both issued notices for meetings at the same venue, sparking a confrontation.

Naija News had earlier reported that the National Secretary of the Wike-backed bloc, Samuel Anyanwu, arrived at the Wadata Plaza headquarters with his loyalists early on Monday.

According to Daily Post, a scuffle broke out shortly after the group attempted to settle in, as tempers flared between supporters of both camps.

Shortly after the fracas, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, accompanied by newly elected PDP National Chairman, Taminu Turaki, forced their way into the PDP National Executive Committee hall.

The trio reportedly led members of the Ibadan-produced NWC into the hall to proceed with their scheduled NEC meeting.

In a related development, Naija News had reported that violence broke out at the PDP headquarters in Abuja, forcing police to fire teargas to disperse supporters amid an ongoing leadership tussle between rival factions of the party.

Chaos broke out at Wadata Plaza as Governor Makinde, Mohammed, and the Turaki-led executive arrived, triggering clashes with police and supporters of Senator Anyanwu’s faction who tried to block their entry.
