2027 Coalition: Peter Obi, Atiku, David Mark Prioritized Their Personal Ambitions – Bode George
by Oladipo Abiola · Naija NewsA former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has criticized the trio of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for their involvement in the 2027 coalition.
He said the trio abandoned their leaking houses instead of making efforts to fix.
According to him, Atiku, Mark and Obi all gained political prominence in PDP but are unwilling to make the sacrifice to rebuild the party after it faced challenges.
Naija News reports George made the submission while speaking on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines on Thursday evening about the 2027 coalition efforts targeted at unseating President Bola Tinubu.
He expressed disappointment with the involvement of Atiku, Obi and Mark in the coalition efforts, stating that the trio joined the coalition due to their own selfish political desires.
“I’m very disappointed. You don’t abandon your house because the roof is leaking; you stay, fix it and make it better,” Chief George declared.
He dismissed the defection of some PDP chieftains to the newly adopted African Democratic Congress (ADC) by the coalition, saying the defectors betrayed their parties.
“David Mark, Atiku, and Obi all rose to prominence through the PDP. Now, they are abandoning the same party because their personal ambitions were not satisfied,” he lamented.
Recalling his time in the military, Chief George said loyalty, discipline and dedication are hallmarks of virtues that every politician should embrace.
He said, “In the military, we don’t behave like rolling stones. Loyalty, dedication, and sacrifice to the collective good are key. You can’t just jump ship because things are tough.”
While acknowledging the crisis facing the PDP, the former military governor of Ondo State said the party is on the path of restoration following its June 30 meeting in which all issues of concern were addressed.
“In every organization, there will be crisis, but we sat down, told ourselves the truth, and came out stronger. What we achieved on June 30 was nothing short of a resurrection,” he said.
He also reiterated the importance of adherence to zoning, saying the nation’s founding political fathers had carefully designed a six-zone, six-power-centre arrangement to manage ethnic and religious diversity.
