‘This Is Not The End Of PDP’ – Party Leaders React As Court Stops National Convention

by · Naija News

Some senior officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called for calm and unity, describing the court judgment which ordered the suspension of its planned National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, as both a challenge and an opportunity for introspection.

Naija News recalls that Justice Omotosho of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, stopped the PDP from proceeding with its planned national convention scheduled for November 15-16.

The court ordered the PDP to put its plans for the convention on hold, citing a breach of rules.

Justice Omotosho directed the PDP to go back and put its house in order, and also to send the statutory 21-day notice before proceeding with the proposed convention.

The court order follows a suit initiated by three PDP members, Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP chairman), Amah Nnanna (Abia PDP chairman), and Turnah George (South-South PDP Secretary), alleging a breach of the party’s constitution in the convention’s preparation.

Reacting to the development, Deputy National Youth Leader and NEC member, Timothy Osadolor, said the decision offered the party a chance to address long-standing grievances and rebuild internal cohesion.

He said, “It may not be the best of judgments, but it’s an opportunity to put our house in order. We’re depleted enough already and should stop entertaining divisions. We need to reflect and come out stronger.”

Another NEC member, who also spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the court decision is not the end of PDP but a wake-up call for reform.

He added that the leadership would soon convene a meeting of key stakeholders across the country to evaluate the party’s next steps and consider an appeal.

He said, “This is not the end of the PDP; it is the beginning of a reformed PDP. We must regroup, reconcile, and prepare for the challenges ahead.”

Despite the court battles, deep divisions persist within the PDP, particularly between allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and supporters of the acting chairman.

The disagreements centre on the control of party structures in the South-South, the zoning of national offices, and the micro-zoning formula ahead of the planned convention.
