Wike Faction Floods PDP Secretariat as Protesters Chant “Turaki Must Go”
by Enioluwa Adeniyi · Naija NewsSupporters of the Nyesom Wike–led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday took over the streets surrounding Wadata Plaza, the party’s national headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.
The demonstrators, composed mainly of women and youth groups, carried placards bearing messages directly targeting the PDP National Chairman, Tanimu Turaki, SAN.
Some of the inscriptions read: “No to Turaki”, “Turaki must go”, among others.
Naija News understands that Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, was elected National Chairman at Saturday’s Ibadan convention, an exercise boycotted by the Wike-led bloc, which has since dismissed the outcome as illegitimate.
Both factions had issued notices announcing parallel executive meetings at the party’s secretariat for Tuesday, setting the stage for confrontation.
By 9:45 a.m., the Wike-backed faction had taken over the secretariat and its surroundings. The group, led by the sacked Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, marched into the premises accompanied by a large contingent of heavily armed police officers.
The police were seen mounting strategic positions along adjoining streets, forming tight security rings around the building to prevent an escalation of hostilities.
As at the time of filing this report, no member of the Turaki-led leadership had arrived at Wadata Plaza, even as the streets remained firmly controlled by the pro-Wike protesters.
