Brentford Appoint Keith Andrews As New Head Coach On Three-Year Deal

Brentford have named Keith Andrews as the club’s new head coach, handing the 44-year-old his first managerial role in a bold move following Thomas Frank’s departure to Tottenham Hotspur.

Keith Andrews has signed a three-year contract and will look to build on the foundations laid by his predecessor at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Andrews joined Brentford last summer as a set-piece coach under Frank, bringing experience from coaching roles at Sheffield United, MK Dons, and the Republic of Ireland national team.

Despite having never managed a club before, Andrews now steps up as head coach during a period of transition for the Bees.

Brentford reportedly considered a range of external candidates, including Ipswich Town’s highly-rated Kieran McKenna and former Ajax boss Francesco Farioli.

However, in a move reminiscent of Frank’s own promotion from assistant to manager in 2018, owner Matthew Benham has opted for continuity, betting on Andrews to guide the club through the club’s next chapter.

The appointment comes amid significant changes within the squad. Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has joined from Liverpool to replace Mark Flekken, who has signed for Bayer Leverkusen.

Meanwhile, Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard is close to sealing a move to Arsenal, and Manchester United have tabled a £60 million improved bid for last season’s top scorer, Bryan Mbeumo.

Andrews’ immediate challenge will be to stabilize the squad and maintain Brentford’s competitive edge in the Premier League as they enter a new era.
