Selma Blair ‘Did Not Intend to Hurt Anyone’ on Delta Flight
by Bethy Squires · VULTURESelma Blair issued her first statement after being charged with two counts of second-degree assault. Blair was arrested early on October 12 at JFK International Airport, following an altercation with crew members on a Delta flight. The next day, she was arraigned and released on $20,000 bail. Through representatives, the Cruel Intentions star issued a statement to People, giving her account of what happened on that Delta flight. “Selma Blair experienced a medical emergency on the flight. There was no attempt to open the door of the aircraft. Selma did not intend to harm anyone.”
Blair allegedly attacked two flight attendants on her flight from LAX to JFK, biting one. She is reported to have tried to open the doors of the plane during the flight. Once on the ground, Blair allegedly kicked a police officer and nurse. The nurse has been granted a temporary restraining order against Blair.
In court, Blair’s attorney said she was overworked and hit her head on a bulkhead while on the plane. “These factors, coupled with the altitude, resulted in a state of severe confusion and disorientation,” he said. Her reps indicated Blair’s multiple sclerosis was also a factor. In her statement, Blair’s reps added that “Selma also has pseudobulbar affect, a neurological condition secondary to her MS, which bears directly on how a medical episode presents to people who do not know her. For the same reason, she travels with a service dog who doesn’t leave her side, and the authorities took her dog from her.”
“There is much more to this story than has been reported, and we ask to consider the entirety of the facts before rushing to judgment,” the statement concluded, “whether in the courtroom or in the court of public opinion.”
