The 2026 BAFTA Film Winners, as Presented by Paddington Bear

The Paddington actor-animatronic hybrid from the West End run of Paddington: The Musical presented an award! To whom? Does it matter. Bear on stage! (Of course it matters who won a BAFTA off Paddington. Congratulations to Boong.)

Sinners had the real coup of the evening, animatronic bear notwithstanding. The film broke the record for most BAFTAs for a movie by a Black director, surpassing 12 Years a Slave’s previous record of two in 2014. Sinners won Original Score, Original Screenplay and Supporting Actress at the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards. “For all the writers out there, when y’all look at that blank page, think of who you love, think of anybody who you’ve seen in pain that you identify with and wish they felt better and let that love motivate you,” Coogler said when accepting his trophy for Original Screenplay. “I’ll be forever grateful for this, thank you all.”

Going into the night, One Battle After Another led with 14 nominations, but with Coogler’s vampire epic following closely behind with 13. Marty Supreme had 11 nominations, and won none. It’s now tied with 1969’s Women in Love and 2004’s Finding Neverland for most BAFTA losses.

For those wondering where the T in BAFTA was tonight, check back in summer. The U.K.’s biggest award ceremony has one name but two gaudy nights (to misappropriate Dorothy L. Sayers) of celebration. The British Academy of Film and Television holds its film awards before the Oscars. The TV side of things happens later in the year, which means there’s still one awards body that can give further accolades to Adolescence.
