Ryan Gosling Is the First Starfighter

Ryan Gosling is going to space. No, it’s not a Barbie-themed Blue Origin stunt, it’s a new Star Wars movie. At Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan, Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni announced that they were moving forward with Shawn Levy’s long-rumored film. Titled Star Wars: Starfighter, the film will come out May 28, 2027.

According to a press release from Disney, Star Wars: Starfighter will take place around five years after The Rise of Skywalker. It will be a standalone story rather than the beginning of yet another trilogy. Previous reporting indicates that Levy’s The Adam Project collaborator Jonathan Tropper will write the screenplay. Levy has been working on this film since 2022, which means he probably took brief Star Wars brainstorming breaks on the set of Deadpool & Wolverine. Idea: What if Ryan Reynolds was also in space and he said “fuck”? It could work.
