Alex Gibney Tries to Find the Words to Describe Elon Musk

There are so many ways to describe Elon Musk, some fact, some opinion, and it seems like Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney is ready to challenge one of the richest people alive. In the teaser for his new documentary, Musk, numerous voices describe the billionaire as “possibly the greatest living inventor” and a “real-life Iron Man” before the realities of following someone really rich in tech set in. “In a science-fiction novel, he would not be the hero,” one voice says, followed by another. “He is a man who has lost his mind.” Gibney, who directed Going Clear, the Scientology documentary, has been vocal about the film on X, Musk’s platform. “More than three years in the making. Looking forward to showing it to the world,” he wrote on August 17.

Musk comes to theaters this fall, after premiering at the Venice Film Festival this Tuesday.
