No Other Land Makes a Statement at the Oscars
by Jason P. Frank · VULTUREOne year after Zionist-supported blowback against Jonathan Glazer’s acceptance speech for Best International Feature Film, in which he called out the “dehumanization” of Palestinian people, No Other Land, a documentary about Palestinian resistance, wins Best Documentary Film at the 2025 Oscars. “About two months ago, I became a father, and my hope to my daughter is that she will not have to live the same life I am living now,” Palestinian director and star Basel Adra said in his acceptance speech. “Always fearing violence, home demolitions, and displacement that my community is living and facing every day.” He added that, “No Other Land reflects the harsh reality that we’ve been enduring for decades, and still exists as we call on the world to take serious actions to stop the injustice and to stop the ethnic cleansing of Palestinian people.”
“We made this film, Palestinians and Israelis, because together, our voices are stronger,” Israeli co-director and co-star Yuval Abraham said, adding, “When I look at Basel, I see my brother, but we are unequal. We live in a regime where I am free under civilian law, and he is under military law that destroy his life and he cannot control.” He also turned an eye toward the American audience. “There is a different path, a political solution without ethnic supremacy, with national rights for both of our people,” he said. “And I have to say, as I am here, the foreign policy in this country is helping to block this path.”
