Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis’s Warriors Musical Is Broadway Bound
by Jason P. Frank · VULTUREFirst of all, no, this isn’t an adaptation of those books about cats. We already have a Cats musical, and it’s doing just fine. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis’s new musical, Warriors, an adaptation of the 1979 film The Warriors and the novel of the same name, is coming to Broadway this spring. Unlike the cat-starring books many Gen-Zers read in elementary school, this one follows a pair of rival gangs. The twist here is that, though the movie and book are both about male-on-male violence, the cast will be all-female. The concept was first introduced on a 2024 album featuring Ms. Lauryn Hill, Nas, Ghostface Killah, Phillipa Soo, Joshua Henry, and more. No casting has been confirmed for this production.
“With Warriors, we take a fateful journey through New York City full of heart and grit as our characters fight to survive,” Miranda and Davis said in a statement. “Musicalizing such a vibrant world for the concept album has been a thrill, and now we’re coming out to play on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne. We can’t wait.”
Along with Davis and Miranda, who are collaborating on the score and the book, the team working on the musical is largely confirmed. It will be directed by Jenny Koons, making her Broadway debut, and co-directed and choreographed by Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler, who choreographed Miranda’s Hamilton and In the Heights. Thomas Kail, who directed Hamilton, will produce alongside Miranda and his father, Luis A. Miranda Jr. The musical will open at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in April 2027. Maybe it will end up in a turf war with nearby gang musical The Outsiders.
