Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed at ‘Shree Baikuntha Dham’ in Khandagiri area of Bhubaneswar on Sunday amid reports of a boy being projected and worshiped as ‘Kalki Avatar’ at the ashram.

As per information, several local residents gathered outside the ashram and tried to enter its premises, which led to a face-off with the followers of the self-styled godman.

As parts of measures to prevent any untoward incident, police personnel rushed to the site and brought the situation under control.

As the issue triggered a controversy in the state, Kashinath Mishra, father of the boy clarified that his son is not God.

In a video message, Mishra said that his son has no link with the ashram and it is a conspiracy against my family.

Claiming that the photo being circulated on social medias was taken ten years ago when his son was only 5-year-old, he said the photo was taken at a birthday event at a friend’s house.

He further alleged that some  ‘mischievous elements’ are spreading false information to defame him and tarnish his family’s reputation.

Regarding reports about his son being worshiped and treated as a ‘guru’, Mishra said these allegations are false and baseless.

Mishra further stated that he is busy promoting the culture of Lord Jagannath and Sanatan Dharma and his son merely follows the spiritual practices.

Notably, the issue came to the fore after a voluntary organisation lodged a complaint at Bharatpur police station against the father-son duo alleging that the two were misleading people and hurting their religious sentiments.

Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) also registered a suo motu case over the incident and asked the police to submit a report on the matter in 15 days. The commission also directed the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to conduct a probe.
