Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano takes controversy away from Jake Paul v Mike Tyson in Texas
by Robert Hynes · Irish MirrorJake Paul's fight with Mike Tyson might have been controversial ahead of Netflix's first ever live boxing show, but it was Katie Taylor's win over Amanda Serrano causing all the controversy after it.
The pair battled it out in another all-action classic at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, ahead of the pathetic meeting of Paul and Tyson.
Taylor, fighting for the first time in almost a year, started slowly against the unified featherweight champion, but grew into the fight and gradually upped the tempo to win by unanimous decision as all three judges at ringside scored the bout 95-94 in her favour.

However, Serrano, her trainer and promoter were all furious afterwards as they accused the defending undisputed super-lightweight champion of intentionally headbutting throughout the ten-round contest.
“I knew it if went to the judges it was going to be a little shady. I chose to be great. I went up three divisions. It is what it is. I’m a featherweight", said Serrano
“She kept headbutting me. It’s what she does. It’s not just my fight, it’s all her fights. It’s what she does.”
Serrano's trainer Jordan Maldonado echoed her comments, stating: “She’s so dirty, she leads with her head man, she’s such a nice person outside [the ring] but when she goes in there, she’s so dirty.
“A lot of her opponents have been cut and headbutted, she leads with her head."
A clash of heads led to a bad cut just above Serrano's right eye in the fourth round, which caused her problems for the rest of the bout, while Taylor was deducted a point for leading with her head in the eighth round after being warned by the referee about doing so already.
However, Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian believes the bout could have been well over before then.
"I thought in the first round, if there was 15 seconds left, Katie Taylor was dropped and done. If you look at the replay, she doesn't know where she was," he said.
"I thought Katie implemented her game plan well but it was a dirty fight. She used her head to lead every single minute of every round.
"Amanda did her best to fight back but she was at a disadvantage and the referee didn't stop the head butts. He took a point away way too late and she continued to do the headbutting and she continued to do the holding."
But Taylor didn't take any notice of the complaints as she explained the head clashes.
"It just happens sometimes, when you're fighting against a southpaw especially," she said. "The fighters come in close and it just happens.
"It was completely accidental. I think they're calling me a dirty fighter or whatever, but that wasn't purposely done.
"I'm in there fighting like she is and it's a rough sport and sometimes you get head clashes so you have to fight through those things. This is the fight game."
