Arsenal continue their Premier League title bid against struggling Southampton today – but fans in the UK won't be able to watch the match on TV.

After pushing Manchester City all the way in the last two seasons, the Gunners have made a strong start to the 2024/25 campaign and currently sit third, just a point behind early leaders Liverpool. It could have been better and it could have been worse for Mikel Arteta ’s side, who were denied a statement win at City by John Stones ’ added-time leveller, having played for more than half the match with 10 men.

However, they got out of jail against Leicester last weekend. After being pegged back to 2-2, having been 2-0 up, the Gunners scored twice in added time to win 4-2. Next up, they face a beleaguered Saints side, who sit second-bottom after five defeats in their first six games.

Having been comprehensively outplayed in their 3-1 defeat at Bournemouth on Monday, they will not be relishing the trip to the Emirates. MirrorFootball brings you everything you need to know about watching the big game, which will not be screened live on UK TV…

Why isn’t Arsenal vs Southampton on TV in the UK

Put simply, Arsenal vs Southampton isn't on TV in the UK because it wasn’t selected by broadcasters Sky Sports and TNT Sports. In their Saturday 12.30pm slot, TNT picked Crystal Palace vs Liverpool while Sky will show Everton vs Newcastle at 5.30pm. Sky’s Super Sunday offering will be Aston Villa’s home clash against Manchester United at 2pm and Tottenham ’s visit to Brighton at 4.30pm.

As Arsenal vs Southampton is a 3pm kick-off, the match falls behind English football’s Saturday blackout which runs from 2.45pm to 5.15pm. Any live broadcast of 3pm games in the UK is strictly prohibited.

In recent years, there have been pleas for the historic rule to be ditched. A Premier League spokesperson told MirrorFootball last year that the rule is in place to "protect attendances throughout the English football pyramid". The EFL would need to be consulted for the rule to be removed.
