by · Irish Mirror

Strictly Come Dancing's Wynne Evans has opened up about getting the boot from the show after Blackpool Week and revealed the sad impact it's had on his 'mind'.

The Welsh warbler, 52, told host Tess Daly, he'd had a wonderful experience on the star-studded series, admitting he never thought he'd make it to week nine.

Speaking on his Radio Wales show today, the GoCompare star reflected on his new routine post-Strictly, admitting "it was a strange day".

Thanking viewers for their "lovely messages", he said: "It's a strange day. I've been institutionalised for so long on Strictly, rehearsing every day and now I don't have to do it. My feet are grateful, but my mind isn't."

Strutting his stuff on the dancefloor with professional partner, Katya Jones, Wynne impressed the judges with his distinctive style and playful attitude.

However, after ending up in the bottom two and losing the dance-off to to Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe, it was his time to go as he paid tribute to the Strictly team.

With tears in his eyes in the BBC studio, he said: "If I can come and do Strictly and last until week nine, then anybody can get out there and dance and have a brilliant time. Strictly is such a brilliant family, such a precious family, that I want everybody here in this room and at home to look after it for the generations to come because it is a wonderful, wonderful thing."

Katya added: "To be honest with you, the smile hasn’t left my face since the first day of our training, since the day we got partnered up. You (Wynne) have made this experience so joyous and so full of laughter for me. I’m sure everybody was jealous because you’re the kind of guy that everybody wants in their life.

"You bring light, you bring laughter, you bring charisma, you fill up every room you walk into with those qualities." Wynne continued: "To have been partnered with Katya has been amazing and coming every Saturday night to hang out with these guys (my other contestants), that’s been wonderful."

Wynne and Katya didn't have the easiest time on the show after 'hand-gate' in which the opera singer was slammed for appearing to stroke the dancer's stomach in the Clauditorium. However, both Wynne and Katya denied anything untoward had gone on, insisting it was an "in joke" between them, which had simply been misjudged.

After being told that Katya was now an "honorary Welsh woman" on his BBC Radio Wales show today, Wynne teased the prospect of them working together in the future. Delighting his loyal listeners, he said: "There will be a Jones/Evans show sooner than you think".
