Woman arrested after Cork house fire overnight as man rushed to hospital

Firefighters managed to get the blaze under control, though significant damage was caused to the property

Gardai have arrested a woman as they launch an investigation into a house fire which took place at a property close to Cork city overnight.

The blaze broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning, September 22, on College Road. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Firefighters managed to get the blaze under control, though significant damage was caused to the residence.

Gardai have confirmed that one man was transported to hospital to receive treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening and a technical examination of the scene is due to take place today.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told The Irish Mirror: "Gardaí are investigating a fire which occurred at a residence on the College Road in Cork at approximately 1am this morning, Sunday, 22nd September 2024.

"The fire was brought under control by local fire services. Extensive damage was caused to the property. One male was taken University Hospital Cork for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"A woman (40s) was arrested at the scene add [sic] is currently detained at a Garda Station in the Southern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

"The scene is preserved and a technical examination will take place today."
