Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other Congress leaders were detained by police hours after they staged a protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence against the police crackdown on protesters during the Parliament march. The Congress brass began their sit-in protest around 3:30 pm in a plan that few even inside the party knew about. The government sent Union Minister Jitendra Singh to engage with Gandhi. But the talks fell through, and Singh claimed that the Leader of Opposition had added to his demands after his call for a NEET discussion in Parliament was accepted.

CJP sacks spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday removed its spokesperson, Vijeta Dahiya, after videos of him during Monday’s protest violence went viral. In a statement, the party said Dahiya’s conduct while “peaceful protesters and our team were facing brutal police violence” was “deeply insensitive”, showed “a complete lack of judgment”, and was “wholly inconsistent with the values and principles of our movement”. It said he had been relieved of all official responsibilities.

24th day of Wangchuk’s hunger strike

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court indicated that it would allow activist Sonam Wangchuk to be shifted from Safdarjung Hospital to Medanta Hospital, the private facility of his choice. On the 24th day of his hunger strike, the court said it would pass a formal order directing his discharge from Safdarjung Hospital. The Centre agreed to the proposal while cautioning that Wangchuk should not take discharge against medical advice after being admitted to Medanta.

Day after the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march

“We will not march again because the police will hurt the youth again,” CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said at a press conference on Tuesday, adding that Monday’s march was called off to prevent further injuries.

“The government has completely shamed itself. If they wanted to, the resignation would have happened long ago, but all the BJP people are in arrogance,” the CJP said, renewing its demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation.

Scores injured

Delhi Police said nearly 180 people were injured in Monday’s clashes, including 118 security and police personnel and 60 protesters. Police also said 70 protesters had been detained and legal action would be initiated against them.

Dipke claimed that more than 150 protesters were undergoing treatment in hospitals following the clashes.

Thousands of people from Delhi and neighbouring towns had joined Monday’s march, adding momentum to a movement that began as online satire but has since grown into one of the most visible youth-led protests during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term.

What’s next for the CJP protest?

CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said there had been no breakthrough in talks with the government after he and Saurav Das met Union Health Minister J P Nadda on Monday.

“J P Nadda told us that he would speak to the senior leadership and get back to us, but we have received no response so far,” Ranka told supporters at Jantar Mantar on Monday evening. “We did not receive any response. Five hours were wasted. If the government wants to talk to us, they will now have to come here,” he added.

The party said its sit-in would continue until its demands, including accountability for the alleged NEET paper leak and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, are met.

Day after 'Sansad Chalo' march, Jantar Mantar remains under tight security

Security remained tight at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday morning, a day after the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) "Sansad Chalo" march turned violent in parts of Delhi. Visuals from the protest site showed police deployment as demonstrators regrouped following Monday's clashes. Around 70 protesters were detained, while more than 100 injured demonstrators were taken to hospitals after the confrontation during the march towards Parliament.
