With Netherlands beating China in the earlier match, it’s now a straight shootout between the Indians and the Aussies with the winner going into the last 4. In case of a draw, it’s advantage Australia as they have more goals scored than India.

After an unbeaten start to their campaign where they drew with China and England and thrashed South Africa 6-1 to qualify for the second round, their streak was broken by Netherlands who defeated them 2-0 in their previous match. Due to that defeat, India will now need to defeat Australia to qualify for the semifinals.

The Aussies are a familiar foe for the Indians and in a recent tour both teams have played 4 closely fought matches with india losing 2, winning one and drawing one. Australia, although, haven’t had the best season, finishng eighth in the 2025-26 Pro League and were runners-up to the hosts at the World Cup qualifiers in Santiago.

India’s Women’s World Cup semifinal hopes hang by a thread after 0-2 loss to Netherlands

There was a strange sight at the Wagener Stadium: India were in orange, the Netherlands in blue. The colour swap was about the only thing the Dutch had surrendered. For long stretches, India surrendered almost everything else.

The Netherlands beat India 2-0 on Friday to underline the gulf between the World No.1 and a team that had arrived in the second round of the World Cup unbeaten and with renewed belief. India defended bravely and made the Dutch work for their goals, but never managed to keep the ball for long enough to seriously threaten the hosts.
