by Kriti Sonali · The Indian Express · JoinRamayana Part 1 Movie Review LIVE Updates: Ranbir Kapoor-Yash-Sai Pallavi-starrer Ramayana is finally set to hit theatres, with paid previews scheduled at select cinemas tonight and a worldwide release across multiple theatres and shows on November 5. According to reports, Sony Pictures is distributing the film across approximately 50,000 screens in more than 100 countries, with an additional 9,000 screens in India. Even before its release in India, the film has reportedly crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in advance bookings, while several critics have praised its visual magnificence while pointing out a few niggles, especially in the dubbed English version.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being made in two parts with a combined budget of Rs 4,000 crore. The second instalment is scheduled to release next Diwali.

Ramayana: Part 1 stars Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi as Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, respectively. Ravie Dubey plays Lakshman, while KGF star Yash essays the role of Ravana. Rakul Preet Singh will portray Surpanakha, while Panchayat actor Faisal Malik will play Kumbhkaran. The film also features Arun Govil, Lara Dutta and Sunny Deol in pivotal roles.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, overseas advance bookings for Ramayana are nearing $3 million for the opening weekend, with current sales standing at around $2.85 million, including $2.15 million in North America. Advance bookings in the Middle East, one of the biggest markets for Indian films, are yet to open.
With blockbuster Dhurandhar having been banned in the Middle East, Ramayana could benefit from its presence in the region and potentially surpass the lifetime collections of Ranveer Singh’s film.
The film held its Los Angeles premiere last week, with a screening at the Academy Theater. Running for over three hours and 15 minutes, Ramayana: Part 1 has received a U certificate, giving it another advantage over Dhurandhar, which was rated A and restricted to adult audiences aged 18 and above.
The film is expected to open at Rs 180-200 crore worldwide on its release day. With the Diwali holiday expected to boost footfalls, it remains to be seen whether this ambitious mythological drama can live up to the enormous expectations surrounding what is being billed as the most expensive Indian film project in cinema history.

Ramayana: OG Lakshman Sunil Lahri disappointed with AR Rahman-Hans Zimmer music
Sunil Lahri, who famously played Lakshman in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, has expressed disappointment with the music of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash. While he said he has not watched the film, he expressed faith in director Nitesh Tiwari and the cast, praising their talent and hard work. However, he felt the music, composed by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer, could have incorporated more local flavours from Mithila and Ayodhya. Calling music the backbone of an epic like the Ramayana, he said, “The music from this film that I have heard, in some of the songs, some of the sounds have disappointed me a bit.” He also stressed that the film’s success was important given its huge budget and the livelihoods dependent on it.

Ashish Chanchlani shares Ramayana review, says 'I was sobbing at the end'
YouTuber and content creator Ashish Chanchlani has praised Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana: Part 1. In his detailed review, Ashish called the film "a blockbuster of truly epic proportions" and wrote, "Ramayana is a blockbuster of truly epic proportions, delivering some of the absolute best action set pieces Indian cinema has ever seen. But beyond the breathtaking visual spectacle, the film's biggest strength is Nitesh Tiwari's astute direction. This is entirely his ship, and he sails it with supreme control. The casting is perfection. Ranbir, Sai and Yash all hit it completely out of the park. A special shoutout to Ravi Dubey, who absolutely smashes it as Lakshman. Surprisingly, the film also has some wholesome humorous scenes featuring him. While there are minor technical hiccups along the way, with a few de-aging shots in the night sequences feeling slightly off, the film is edited so tightly that you barely notice them. Every single risk taken by DNEG and Namit Malhotra has paid off magnificently, with each action sequence outdoing the last. Nothing is going to stop this film from becoming a historic blockbuster. My only advice is: please watch it on the biggest screen possible. Do not judge it by cheap leaks or resort to piracy. This is made for the big screen. I was sobbing at the end after the Jatayu fight scene."

Ramayana podcast host mistakes Yash’s Ravana for hero, Sai Pallavi says it was intentional
During a podcast conversation with Straw Hat Goofy, the host admitted that he initially thought Yash's Ravana was the protagonist of Ramayana: Part 1 because of the way the character is introduced. Responding to his observation, Sai Pallavi explained that the makers deliberately began the story with Ravana's rise to power before introducing Lord Rama. She said, "That is the intention. In the Ramayana, when evil rises, Vishnu takes an avatar. It is not as though Vishnu is already present, looking for someone to defeat. He takes an avatar only when there is a dire need to do so and comes to teach evil a lesson. So, the story had to begin with Ravana’s introduction, showing how he started his journey and eventually became who he was." Yash, meanwhile, said he hoped audiences would take away the essence of Lord Rama and his approach to life from the film, rather than focus only on the action or Ravana's character.
