However, even before the tour has officially begun, the visitors have suffered another minor injury setback with the captain being ruled out of fielding action after the SLC XI opted to bat first. Gill sustained an injury during practice overnight, prompting the management to rest him from fielding duties.

A squad ravaged by injuries, poor form and a World Test Championship (WTC) campaign hanging in the balance, coach Gautam Gambhir and India have a lot of questions to answer during a tricky tour in the island nation. The potentially drier tracks with heavy bouts of spin can test the verve of India’s transitioning Test batting unit, who have conceded stinging defeats to New Zealand and South Africa at home in the last two years.
