Chasing 250, the visitors romped home with 10 balls to spare, courtesy of a magnificent unbeaten 102 from captain Shai Hope and a blistering 84 off 34 balls from Sherfane Rutherford, who together orchestrated the second-highest successful chase in T20I history involving Test-playing nations.

India had posted a formidable 249/5 after being asked to bat, with Sanju Samson answering his critics in emphatic fashion with a 42-ball 82, while Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 44. Roston Chase was the pick of the West Indies bowlers, finishing with remarkable figures of 3/24 in a game where 33 sixes and 46 fours were struck. But the total proved insufficient as Hope and Rutherford took the game away from India, with Mayank Yadav’s 3/36 the only bright spot in an otherwise chastening night for the bowlers, who struggled with dew and a flat surface.

The series now heads to Indore for the third T20I on Sunday, with India needing to regroup quickly after a defeat that exposed their bowling vulnerabilities in dewy conditions. Here in Ranchi for the second T20 international, and I'm just standing here. It's a lovely ground. The dimensions suggest 67 meters square, which is a fair-sized boundary, and 77 down the ground. So you need to pack some muscle to clear these boundaries. Standing on this surface though, it's kind of an upturned saucer where you run downhill once you come off of the square, and it's fairly cool as well. I've been told 24 degrees Celsius. First need to talk about the dew. There is going to be some dew here in Ranchi, but I also think it's going to be a surprise because this is the first time that the machine has been used to spray the anti-dew agent here at this particular venue. But when you come here and you see that big smile on my face, and that's because under lights there is a sheen on the surface. 349 and 332 (when India played) on this very pitch last year against South Africa. If you just go, there is not too much grass. It looks very, very hard, and I think there are lots of runs on offer. So batting first team might just have a little bit of pressure to post 20-30 runs to account for the dew, but it's a no-brainer. Whoever wins the toss will field first, gear up for a high-scoring T20 international. It's amazing what makes you happy: runs. I want wickets. So black soil, hopefully great game.

Naman Dhir had barely bowled in IPL. Then came his 3/31 on India debut
For a player who had bowled just 8.4 overs without a wicket in his IPL career, Naman Dhir could hardly have made a stronger case for his bowling. The Impact Player rule may have reduced his opportunities at Mumbai Indians, but the 26-year-old insisted he was ready.
“I’ve been bowling for a long time. It’s not like I’ve just started. In IPL, yes, there’s an impact player rule, so you see me bowling less. But it’s not like I haven’t bowled, I’ve bowled a lot and I’ve had a great experience here too.
