Gujarat Local Body, Municipal, Panchayat Election Results 2026 Live Updates: The BJP has secured victory in nine out of 15 municipal corporations, including Gandhidam, Bhuj in Kutch district, Mandvi, Mundra, Anjar. As per the latest data shared by the State Election Commission (SEC), the saffron party has won over half of the total seats in the municipal corporations of Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Karamsad-Anand, Nadiad, Navsari, Vapi, Surat and Morbi. In the Morbi Municipal Corporation, the BJP has bagged all 52 seats.

Ashish Joshi wins and police arrive: Minutes after former BJP leader and Congress candidate Ashish Joshi won with a thumping margin in Ward 15 of VMC in Vadodara city, Gujarat police arrived to pick him in an alleged case under Prohibition Act. Ward 15 — which is home to the victims of the January 2024 Harni Boat tragedy that killed 14 persons, including 12 students and two teachers– recorded the highest turnout of 56% on April 26. Joshi, who has been fighting for justice for the Harni boat victims, was suspended from the BJP in May 2025, days after two mothers of the victims had interrupted Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel at an event.

AAP wins tribal belt: Even though the BJP has major gains in 9 municipalities, the party suffered a setback in tribal Narmada district, with AAP sweeping the District Panchayat as well as three Taluka Panchayats of Dediapada, Sagbara, Chikhda with a thumping majority. AAP also won Valia Taluka Panchayat in Bharuch district as well as Garudeshwar Taluka Panchayat in Narmada district, which is home to the Statue of Unity– a major prestige battle won against BJP.

The newly-carved taluka of Chikhda in Narmada district sees AAP sweeping 15 of the 16 seats in the maiden election for Chikhda Taluka Panchayat.

AAP Gujarat working president and Dediapada MLA Chaitar Vasava had campaigned massively in Chikhda -- carved out of his home turf of Dediapada and Sagbara talukas of the district.

Incidentally, following an FIR of attempt to murder filed by a BJP leader against Chaitar in July 2025, the AAP MLA had been prohibited from entering Dediapada Taluka as part of the condition of his bail granted by the Gujarat HC on September 9, 2025.

Chaitar spent most of his days in Chikhda with a high-octane campaign.

On April 23, the Gujarat High Court had granted relief to Chaitar, allowing him to enter his home taluka of Dediapada in Narmada District until April 30 for the elections.
