Flight AI1886 landed safely at Jaipur and the aircraft is undergoing checks in line with Air India’s safety standards, according to ANI. The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers and said its ground team at Jaipur was providing assistance. Air India said efforts were underway to fly the passengers to their destination at the earliest.

Delhi’s Satya Niketan building collapse survivor key police witness against PG operators

Nitish Chib, a 19-year-old tenant at the Satya Niketan PG, is a key witness Delhi Police is relying on to frame charges against the property’s operators, The Indian Express reported. The PG was run by ‘Hostel Days’ from building 14 and operated by Sudhanshu Lovneesh and Subham Tyagi. Both were arrested after the collapse on Sunday. Chib was among those rescued from the debris. Five of his fellow tenants were among the seven people killed in the collapse.

RBI rejects Tata Sons’ bid to remain unregistered investment company

The Reserve Bank of India has rejected Tata Sons’ application to surrender its registration and remain an unregistered Core Investment Company, dealing a setback to the Tata group. The RBI has directed Tata Sons to take steps to comply with all applicable guidelines for NBFCs in the Upper Layer. This could require the group’s principal holding company to go public through an initial public offering and list its shares. Tata Sons had sought the RBI’s approval in March 2024 to be classified as an unregistered CIC. Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata had also supported keeping the company private and unlisted.

AAP, GFP announce ‘Goa First’ alliance for 2027 Goa Assembly polls

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Sunday announced a pre-poll alliance, ‘Goa First’, for the 2027 Goa Assembly elections, positioning themselves as a non-BJP, non-Congress alternative.

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, announcing the alliance in Panaji, said the BJP would not secure a majority in the next elections and claimed that ‘Goa First’ would form the government. He said AAP and GFP would be equal partners.

“The people of Goa want a change. Goa First will form the government. We will win on our own,” Kejriwal said.

GFP president Vijai Sardesai said the alliance would provide an alternative to the ruling government and alleged that it was dominated by defectors. He said the alliance was open to other like-minded political forces.

The announcement comes after seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs recently joined the BJP. Kejriwal said the development was a lesson for AAP and that the party would be “extra cautious” while selecting nominees for the Upper House in future.

AAP currently has two MLAs in the 40-member Goa Assembly, while GFP has one.

Amit Shah urges Indian control over entire lab-grown diamond ecosystem

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday called on India’s gems and jewellery industry to ensure that the entire lab-grown diamond (LGD) manufacturing and business ecosystem remains under Indian control.

Addressing the 52nd India Gems and Jewellery Awards ceremony in Mumbai, Shah said India has the infrastructure, capabilities, capital and entrepreneurs needed to build a complete global supply chain for lab-grown diamonds.

He urged industry players to expand beyond diamond manufacturing and focus on the entire value chain, including machinery production, jewellery making, branding and setting up Indian showrooms in cities across the world.

Shah said the market for lab-grown diamonds could grow to nearly 50 times the size of the current diamond market in terms of volume. He urged businesses not to focus only on price differences and instead tap the potential for large-scale demand.

The Home Minister also said the Centre, along with the governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra, is working on policies to support the domestic lab-grown diamond industry. He called on the sector to aim for Indian dominance across the value chain, from manufacturing machinery to selling finished jewellery.

Shah also praised the gems and jewellery industry for its contribution to social welfare and philanthropy, including relief during natural disasters, water conservation, tree plantation and education initiatives for the children of artisans and employees.

Tejashwi Yadav accuses Centre of ‘stepmotherly’ treatment over Bihar flood relief

Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday accused the Centre of adopting a “stepmotherly” attitude towards the state in providing flood relief, and criticised the BJP-led government for failing to secure adequate assistance.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, the RJD working president said he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 7, seeking that the floods be declared a “national disaster” and that Rs 5,000 crore in immediate financial assistance be provided to Bihar.

Yadav criticised Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Union ministers from Bihar, saying they had failed to secure a relief package from the Centre. He alleged that the Prime Minister responded more quickly to floods in Gujarat, while Bihar received different treatment.

“The engines of the 'double-engine' government in Bihar have failed,” Yadav said, questioning why the state government had not been able to secure central assistance despite having several Union ministers from Bihar.

Yadav also claimed that he had not received a response to his letters to Modi and Choudhary. “Just like PM has ignored Bihar in times of flood, people will ignore him in the future,” he said.

Justice V Kameswar Rao sworn in as Patna High Court chief justice

Justice V Kameswar Rao was sworn in as the chief justice of the Patna High Court on Sunday by Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at a ceremony held at Lok Bhavan.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and other dignitaries attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Born on August 7, 1965, Justice Rao completed his graduation in Geography and LLB from Delhi University in 1987 and 1990, respectively. He enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in March 1991 and practised before the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court and the Principal Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal in New Delhi.

The Delhi High Court designated him as a senior advocate in 2010. He was elevated as an additional judge on August 17, 2013, and became a permanent judge on March 18, 2015.

Justice Rao was transferred to the Karnataka High Court in June 2024, where he also served as acting chief justice. He returned to Delhi in July 2025.

Delhi man dies days after being beaten over theft suspicion, two truck drivers held

A man died at a Delhi hospital days after he was allegedly tied up and beaten with belts, fists and kicks by truck drivers who suspected him of attempting to steal cables from their vehicles in the Bhalswa Dairy area, police said on Sunday.

Ram Kumar, 18, was allegedly caught along with four others by truck drivers while they were attempting to steal cables and other articles from trucks on August 29. His brother subsequently made a PCR call, alleging that the truckers had beaten him.

Kumar was taken to Burari Hospital the next day, where doctors recorded bruises and lacerations on his hand, a black eye and bruising on his leg. He was treated and discharged, with police saying his family had initially declined to take legal action.

Kumar returned to the hospital for a check-up on September 9 after complaining of breathlessness. He was referred to two other hospitals and died at Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis Hospital in the intervening night of September 9 and 10.

Police registered an FIR after receiving information about his death and arrested two truck drivers, identified as Muntiyaz and Naeem. Teams have been formed to trace the remaining accused, while Kumar's post-mortem was conducted on September 12 to determine the exact cause of death.

Six injured after jumping from building amid Delhi factory fire

Over 500 child labourers rescued in Bengaluru during special drive

Madhya Pradesh hooch tragedy: Wanted accused held after police encounter

A 21-year-old man wanted in connection with the hooch tragedy in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district was arrested after a brief encounter with police early on Sunday. The tragedy had claimed 16 lives. Police said Shivanjay Rajput, who carried a ₹30,000 bounty, fired three rounds at a police team during a search operation near Kathua Nala forest area. Police retaliated, hitting him in the leg.

Rajput was taken to hospital and was in stable condition. With his arrest, the number of accused held in the spurious liquor case has risen to 19. Police said Rajput was allegedly involved in brewing the liquor. A country-made pistol, cartridges, a mobile phone and a motorcycle were recovered from him.
