Iranian strikes in Bahrain: Iran launched a drone attack targeting Bahrain on Saturday, while a commercial tanker came under attack in the Strait of Hormuz. Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry said a “number of Iranian drones” targeted the country, describing the assault as “a flagrant threat to the security of citizens and residents”. Separately, the UK’s maritime security agency, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, said a tanker was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s IRGC said it had targeted several locations belonging to the “US terrorist army in the region”, without identifying specific sites, spilling tensions beyond diplomacy in the region again, with maritime traffic security at Hormuz remaining ambiguous.

US releases video of strikes on Iran after Hormuz cargo ship attack

The United States has released video footage showing strikes on Iranian missile and drone storage sites and coastal radar positions, carried out after Iran allegedly attacked the Singapore-flagged cargo ship M/V Ever Lovely in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the US Central Command, the strikes were launched in response to the June 25 drone attack on the vessel as it exited the Strait along the Omani coast. Washington said the operation targeted infrastructure used in attacks on commercial shipping, calling it a response to a violation of the ceasefire.

The exchange has further strained the US-Iran memorandum of understanding signed earlier this month. Iran has since claimed retaliatory strikes against US-linked targets in the Gulf, while both sides continue to accuse each other of breaching the agreement.

Why ships are still not safe in the Strait of Hormuz despite US-Iran deal

Commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains fragile despite the US-Iran memorandum of understanding, with fresh attacks on merchant vessels, retaliatory US and Iranian strikes, and disputes over navigation continuing to fuel uncertainty.

Iran insists ships must seek its approval before transiting the Strait and has introduced new navigation procedures, while the US and its allies maintain the waterway must remain open under international law. Maritime authorities have raised threat levels, shipping companies continue to face elevated war-risk insurance costs, and operators remain divided over which shipping route is safest.

The latest escalation has also spilled beyond the Strait, with Iran and the US accusing each other of violating the ceasefire, renewed tensions in Lebanon, and continued concerns over the durability of the agreement. Maritime experts say the world's busiest energy corridor remains vulnerable despite the diplomatic breakthrough.

Trump's Iran deal faces backlash from some Republican voters: Report

Many supporters of US President Donald Trump have criticised his interim agreement with Iran, with several telling news agency Reuters they believe the deal makes too many concessions to Tehran and could damage Republican prospects in November's midterm elections.

The report, which interviewed 18 Trump voters, found that most opposed key elements of the June 14 memorandum of understanding, including the temporary easing of oil sanctions and the proposed $300 billion reconstruction fund for Iran. A separate Reuters/Ipsos poll found only a quarter of Americans believed the war with Iran had been worth the cost, while a majority doubted the ceasefire would last.

Despite the criticism, several loyal Trump supporters said they still believe the president has a broader strategy to weaken or eventually bring down Iran's leadership. Others said they remain undecided about supporting Republican candidates in the midterms, reflecting growing unease within parts of Trump's political base over the agreement.

US Navy expands Strait of Hormuz shipping route near Oman

The Joint Maritime Information Center, overseen by the US Navy, said a shipping route near Oman's coast has been expanded to accommodate both inbound and outbound traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, Associated Press (AP) reported.

The move comes as the United States seeks to ensure uninterrupted navigation through the strategic waterway after Iran warned that ships must comply with its directives and indicated it could impose transit fees, as per the report. Washington and Gulf Arab states have "rejected" the proposal, maintaining that the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway.

The announcement follows renewed tensions in the Gulf after Iran reportedly launched drone attacks targeting Bahrain and a commercial tanker came under attack in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday. US officials say the expanded route is intended to facilitate safer maritime traffic through one of the world's busiest energy corridors.
