Amanda Serrano shows off gruesome cut suffered from numerous head butts in Katie Taylor rematch
by Damon Martin · MMA FIGHTINGAmanda Serrano is going to need some stitches, and probably a good plastic surgeon, after she left the ring with a gaping wound over her right eyebrow following an epic war with Katie Taylor on Friday night.
As much as the cut may hurt, Serrano losing a controversial decision to Taylor in their rematch certainly stings even more. Despite landing more punches throughout the fight, Serrano ultimately fell to Taylor for a second time after believing she deserved the nod in their first encounter as well two years ago.
Afterwards, Serrano posted a photo revealing a closeup of the cut on her eyebrow.
In their second encounter, Serrano came out guns blazing but she took her first real damage after a clash of heads caused the cut to open over her right eye. Replays showed the it was Taylor’s head that caused the damage rather than a punch with the referee informing the judges scoring the fight.
As the action continued, Taylor was admonished several times for repeated head butts with the referee finally deducting a point late in the fight for the numerous fouls.
While she took the loss in stride considering her feelings about the decision, Serrano stated afterwards that she believed Taylor’s actions were intentional because she does the same thing in all of her fights.
“I think 100 percent [it was on purpose],” Serrano said. “Because she does it every fight.”
The gruesome cut definitely affected Serrano in the fight as she kept favoring that side of her face during many of the biggest exchanges.
It was an unfortunate set of circumstances for Serrano, especially considering how many people watching the fight saying that she deserved the win. Despite now falling to 0-2 in the rivalry, it appeared just about everybody — including Taylor — were open for a trilogy so perhaps Serrano will get a chance to run it back and attempt to make it right next time.
