Police Detail How Ghana Jollof Account Spread False and Inciteful Content
by Gabs · MyNewsGh.comDirector-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, has detailed how the TikTok account Ghana Jollof published and circulated false and inciteful content.
Speaking at a CID press briefing at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Friday, September 18, 2026, COP Donkor said police investigations identified Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, believed to be based in the United Kingdom, as the person behind the account.
She said the account had been used to publish what investigators considered offensive and inciteful videos capable of causing fear, alarm and potentially provoking violence.
According to COP Donkor, one of the videos contained a false claim that a near coup had occurred at Jubilee House.
“Police intelligence identified the owner of the TikTok account as Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, believed to be domiciled in the UK,” she said.
She added that investigations later identified Salomey Awiti Bafoh, a nurse in Techiman, as a person assisting Barbara in the circulation of the content.
“Investigations identified Salomey Awiti Bafoh, a nurse in Techiman, as aiding and abetting Barbara Asantewaa Kodua,” COP Donkor said.
The CID Director-General said Salomey was involved in recruiting people to redistribute the videos published by the Ghana Jollof account.
Police investigations, she said, also established that Salomey and Barbara were friends, with audio interviews supporting that connection.
Salomey was arrested by the National Signals Bureau and the Police on September 17, 2026, and is currently in police custody after being charged with abetment of crime to wit publication of false news.
She has been remanded into police custody and is expected to reappear on September 30, 2026.
COP Donkor said investigations were continuing to establish the identities and whereabouts of other people involved in the activities.
She also cautioned the public that certain online publications and conduct can attract criminal liability under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2008 (Act 772), and the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
