David de Gea reacts to Man United 2-0 defeat to Hull City
by Ayeh Offei-Akoto · MyNewsGh.comFormer Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has sent a message to the club following their 2-0 defeat to Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Red Devils suffered a disappointing loss in their opening match of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
De Gea took to X after the game, reminding the club that the season is a long journey.
“It’s a marathon and not a sprint,” the former United goalkeeper said.
He also expressed confidence in Manchester United’s chances of having a successful campaign.
“It’s not how it starts, it’s how it ends,” De Gea added.
Meanwhile, United manager Michael Carrick was frustrated by the two goals his side conceded.
He admitted that the team needs to improve its defending from set-pieces.
“Conceding two goals is frustrating. Indeed, set-plays – we’ve been quite effective at them over time, and they determined the outcome of the game today. Clearly, there are areas for improvement.
“That’s one of them today, which is evident to mention, but overall, we’ve performed well, so one game does not alter the entire trajectory of our efforts. We recognize that, yet we must remain conscious of what we need to enhance.”
Carrick said the team must now focus on the next match and avoid allowing the defeat to affect their confidence.
He stressed the need to take the season one game at a time.
Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy scored the goals for Hull City.
