EOCO official had identified herself to Baffour Awuah – NDC communicator
by Miss Naa · MyNewsGh.comNDC communicator Benjamin Alpha Aidoo has said the woman who attempted to take Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) had identified herself before the confrontation captured on video.
Mr Aidoo said the footage circulating publicly only showed part of the encounter and did not include an earlier conversation between the MP and the woman.
“My briefing and what I understand is that there was a conversation that had been had. The woman had already identified herself,” he said on TV3’s New Day.
He said Mr Awuah’s earlier willingness to follow the woman in his own vehicle was significant because, in his view, it indicated that the MP knew who she was and why she was approaching him.
“On what basis did he accept to go with the woman if he didn’t know the woman’s identity?” Mr Aidoo asked.
He maintained that the earlier interaction provided context that was missing from the shorter video footage.
“So the video that we saw, it was a short footage. There was an earlier conversation that had begun where the woman had properly identified herself,” he said.
Mr Aidoo stopped short of directly describing Mr Awuah’s account as a lie when pressed on whether the MP had given the public a different version of events.
“No, but I’m telling you what you can characterise it as a lie or whatever,” he said.
He maintained that his position was based on the briefing he had received about the earlier interaction between Mr Awuah and the EOCO official.
