Tupac Shakur murder: Keffe D gets 40 years to life in prison
by Gabs · MyNewsGh.comDuane “Keffe D” Davis has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for his role in the 1996 killing of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur.
The former gang leader received the sentence in a Las Vegas court on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder in August.
Davis, 63, was sentenced to two consecutive terms of 20 years to life, bringing his minimum prison term to 40 years.
Tupac was shot on September 7, 1996, while travelling in a BMW near the Las Vegas Strip after attending a Mike Tyson boxing match. He died six days later at the age of 25.
Prosecutors argued that Davis helped organise the shooting as revenge after Tupac and members of his entourage were involved in a fight with Davis’s nephew, Orlando Anderson, earlier that night.
According to the prosecution, Davis was inside the white Cadillac used in the attack and supplied a firearm to people in the back seat, who opened fire on Tupac’s vehicle. Prosecutors did not allege that Davis personally pulled the trigger.
The case remained unsolved for decades until Davis spoke publicly about his alleged involvement in interviews and his 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend. Investigators also relied on statements he made during a 2008 interview with law enforcement.
During the trial, Davis’s defence challenged the reliability of his statements and argued that no physical evidence linked him to the shooting. The jury, however, found him guilty.
Tupac’s sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, addressed the court during the sentencing hearing, speaking about the loss of her brother and the life he could have lived.
