The doctors say you are 20 years younger – Mahama tells Opoku-Agyemang
by Caroaryee · MyNewsGh.comVice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has resumed official duties after an extended medical leave, receiving a warm welcome from President John Dramani Mahama, who urged her to take things slowly as she transitions back into her role.
“The doctors say you are 20 years younger. That is what the professor told me—that you are okay and fit for the job. We will ask that you take it easy for a little while, and after that, we will see how things go,” President Mahama said during a brief address on Thursday, May 22, in Accra.
The Vice President’s return comes after weeks of public speculation and quiet concern over her health. Initially expected to be a three-week break, her medical leave extended far beyond that timeframe.
Sources close to the Office of the Vice President confirmed that after preliminary consultations at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), she traveled abroad to receive further medical attention.
Though details surrounding the nature of her treatment remain private, President Mahama’s comments suggest she has made a full recovery and is medically cleared to resume work.
Her absence had fueled political commentary and concerns about the transparency of updates from government communicators, particularly given the central role she plays in the administration.
However, her return and the President’s remarks appear to affirm the government’s position that her health situation was under control.
