Obuasi SHTS case: Father was pressured to withdraw complaint – Manasseh

by · MyNewsGh.com

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has alleged that pressure was brought to bear on the father of a girl who reported a sexual abuse case involving Obuasi Senior High Technical School headmaster Zakaria Abdulai, leading to the withdrawal of the complaint.

Manasseh said he had spoken with a senior police official who confirmed that two reports had been made, but information from his own sources suggested that one of the cases had been withdrawn after pressure on the girl’s father.

“I had a phone conversation with a very top person in the police hierarchy, and the person mentioned that indeed two reports were made,” he said on Joy FM.

He added: “What I’m hearing is that a lot of pressure was brought to bear on the father of this girl, and he had to withdraw the case.”

Manasseh said the alleged pressure was consistent with accounts he had gathered during his investigation, including claims that some people had been pressured not to pursue their cases.

He said the circumstances surrounding the reported withdrawal should be examined as part of efforts to establish the facts and ensure that allegations of sexual misconduct involving students are properly investigated.
