Jayden Adams died shortly after representing South Africa at World Cup
by Ayeh Offei-Akoto · MyNewsGh.comSouth African football has been plunged into mourning following reports of the death of Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams at the age of 25.
The talented midfielder, who recently represented South Africa at the FIFA World Cup, passed away shortly after returning from the tournament, where he featured on football’s biggest stage.
Details surrounding Adams’ death remain unclear, but his representatives and guardian have confirmed the tragic news while requesting privacy for his family during this difficult time.
Mamelodi Sundowns were also contacted for comment but declined to confirm or deny the reports, instead calling for respect as the player’s family deals with the loss.
Adams’ mentor, Brendine Johnson, paid an emotional tribute to the midfielder, describing the impact of his sudden passing.
“At this moment, things are still raw. The family wouldn’t want to be contacted right now because they wouldn’t be able to answer anyone. This passing has ripped everybody apart,” Johnson said.
He added that Adams had returned from the World Cup with renewed confidence and excitement about the future.
“I had a close conversation with him on Thursday. The guy was really positive about returning after the World Cup and going on, knowing what lies ahead. He was prepared. Nobody expected this,” Johnson added.
