Obuasi SHTS Students Failed by GES, Police and Ministries – Former NPP US Chair
by Stephen Zoure · MyNewsGh.comNew Patriotic Party (NPP) Former US Chairperson, Nana Yaa Amponsah Frimpong, has accused the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ghana Police Service and relevant government ministries of failing students amid sexual abuse allegations involving the headmaster, Abdullai Zakaria of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).
Nana Yaa alleged that some students had reported the incidents to teachers but that no action was taken to address their concerns, and some were even mocked.
“We have been told that even some of the students gathered courage to report the incident to some of the school teachers and they did nothing about it,” she said.
She questioned how the matter was handled and criticised the possibility of transferring the headmaster to another school while the allegations remain unresolved.
“In the US, it is called passing the trash. You are removing the trash from one school to another,” she stated.
Nana Yaa also described reports that 19 students had allegedly been abused as deeply concerning, arguing that the case required a thorough investigation and a coordinated response from the institutions responsible for student welfare.
She accused the GES, the Ministry of Gender, the Police Service and the Ministry of Education of failing to protect the students.
“The country has failed the children, and we have to do everything as a country to give the children justice,” she said.
