SH1 closed north of Christchurch after serious crash

State Highway 1 is closed north of Christchurch following a serious crash.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash near Spotswood, north of Cheviot, just after 8.30am on Monday.

Police said it appeared there were serious injuries.

Diversions were in place but motorists should avoid the area, police said.

St John have been approached for comment.
