One dead in fatal crash near Tekapo
· RNZOne person has died in a serious crash that has closed State Highway 8 near Lake Tekapo.
Emergency services were called to the crash near the intersection with Tekapo Canal Road about 4.30pm on Sunday.
Police said it involved two vehicles and one person died at the scene.
"The road is closed south of the Tekapo-Pukaki Canal Bridge near Tekapo Canal Road, and will be closed for several hours," police said.
"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and delay travel."
