A lofty proposal posted above a pub by a Merewether local has revealed a story of romance, commitment, and persistence

The simple question: "Jack will you be my BF" appeared on the billboard above the Mary Ellen this week.

It left Newcastle demanding an answer, and the good news is he said yes.

Hotel attendant Ariel has revealed herself as the author of the romantic gesture.

She also confirmed she and social worker Jack were now an item.

The pair met around eight month ago while walking in the park where they sparked up a conversation, she said.

"We became good friends and i was going through some life stuff and he was always there for me," Ariel said.

Ariel said the pair built a strong connection but remained only friends for a while despite Jack's persistence to explore the relationship further.

"I had just got out of a relationship so I thought it would be best to give it some time," Ariel said.

Ariel said that she moved to Newcastle from interstate for a fresh start and Jack followed, their relationship continuing to grow closer.

"Jack wanted to be together he had been asking me for a while," she said.

"He was there for me and he is so caring and lovely and I felt that I did love him and care about him."

Ariel said they were living together and doing more and more "couple" things together, so she decided that because she had made him wait she should take the next step in a fun and romantic way.

"I thought I should ask him properly," she said.

"We like going on walks together and I saw the sign with messages for birthdays and other things, so I thought it would be a great way to ask.

"I asked him under the sign, and luckily he said yes.

"It would have been a bit of a boss move to say no I think, play the reverse card."
