Man charged over incident at Lake Macquarie service station

Police have charged a 48-year-old man over an incident at a Lake Macquarie service station on Friday morning, a spokesman for the force has confirmed.

Though they were reluctant to comment on specific details about 7pm on Friday evening, including what the Fassifern man had been charged with, it was understood a King Street service station at Warners Bay had allegedly been robbed earlier that morning.

In statement, fuel provider Ampol said it was aware of an incident that had unfolded Friday morning. A spokesman said the fuel and convenience network was "providing necessary support as required".

No one was injured, a company spokesman confirmed, adding that staff had "responded swiftly".

The matter was referred to police, they said.

A spokesman for NSW Ambulance confirmed that there had been no calls for assistance from paramedics about midday on Friday.

Police tape remained up around the service station during the morning and into the afternoon.

By the afternoon the business was open and operating.

Police were expected to release a statement on Friday night, September 11.
