Man arrested following crime spree of armed robberies in Newcastle
by Matthew Kelly · Newcastle HeraldA 30-year-old man has been charged over multiple alleged armed robberies across the Newcastle region this month.
Between Wednesday 13 May 2026 and Saturday, a number of items were allegedly stolen during robberies at multiple businesses across the Newcastle area.
At 5:40pm on Wednesday 13 May, a 30-year-old man attended a shopping centre in Newcastle West and allegedly removed an electronic device from the store without paying for it.
On Sunday, May 16, at 8.20am, the man attended a shopping centre in Newcastle West and allegedly produced a knife towards the shop assistant before stealing a two electronic devices.
The following day, Sunday 17 May, the man attended a restaurant on Hunter Street in Newcastle West, where he allegedly threatened staff with scissors before stealing an amount of cash.
Then on Friday, May 22, the same man attended a restaurant in Jesmond, where he allegedly demanded money from the shop assistant before stealing an amount of cash.
On the following day, at about 11.10am on Saturday May 23, the man attended a restaurant on Bluegum Road, Jesmond, allegedly armed with a knife where he threatened staff before stealing cash.
Police arrested the man at an address at Bluegum Road, Jesmond at 7am on Sunday.
He was taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with three counts of robbery with offensive weapon, demand money with menace and shop lifting
He was refused bail to appear before the bail court on Monday.
