More than 20 firefighters called after unit catches alight at Mayfield

More than 20 firefighters were called to a unit that caught fire at Mayfield on Thursday night.

Multiple Triple 0 calls were made about the blaze on Hanbury Street, which broke out in a unit about 10.30pm on February 5.

Firefighting crews arrived within 10 minutes and quickly got to work battling the flames.

Twenty-five firefighters from six crews managed to control and extinguish the fire in under 20 minutes, a Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said.

The fire was contained to the unit of origin, and did not spread to other dwellings.

The Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said there was significant damage to the supporting structure of the roof, which hampered firefighters post-extinguishment efforts.

Police and paramedics also attended the incident.

An occupant of the building suffered minor smoke inhalation but did not require transport to hospital for treatment.

The cause of the blaze is unknown but is under investigation.
