Criticism arises over Super Junior Choi Siwon's Instagram post directly following former president Yoon Suk Yeol's life imprisonment sentence
by Susan-Han · allkpopSuper Junior's Choi Siwon has sparked widespread criticism for his recent Instagram story post, uploaded directly following the sentencing of former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol to life imprisonment.
On February 19 KST, the 25th criminal division of the Seoul Central District Court found Yoon Suk Yeol guilty of treason for paralyzing the activities of the South Korean National Assembly through his declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024. The former president was sentenced to imprisonment for life.
Directly following the ruling, Choi Siwon initially posted the 4-character idiom "Bul-Ga-Sa-Eui (不可思議)" via his Instagram story, which may be translated as "a mystery" or "incomprehensible".
He then deleted the post and instead wrote out 8 Chinese characters, "Bul-Eui-Pil-Mang, To-Bung-Wa-Hae (不義必方, 土崩瓦解)", which may be translated literally as "When unjust, one is fated for ruin; the earth is in turmoil, the roofs collapsing," or more interpretively as "Injustice leads to institutional collapse".
Suspecting that the singer's words were in response to Yoon Suk Yeol's sentence, describing it as an "institutional collapse", many netizens criticized Choi Siwon for explicitly "expressing his political views as an influential public figure". Some further accused him of being on the "far-right".
Meanwhile, Choi Siwon faced controversy from international K-Pop fans in 2025 for sharing a post on his Instagram mourning the death of Charlie Kirk while calling him a "hero".
